About Rob

Rob playing liveRobin Martin (or simply Rob to his friends) was born 5 November 1986 in Greenwich, London. At the age of two he was adopted. From his first toy drum kit to various keyboards, pianos and more recently acoustic guitars Rob has always had a passion for music.

He considers himself a multi-instrumentalist though this is probably stretching the definition a bit far (and not doing justice to many great musicians) considering he now only plays the piano and guitar. However it should be noted that he did once play the E-Flat Horn and Euphonium as part of a school wind band.

Rob also tries to sing and while he may occasionally think he is Bono the general consensus is emphatic in saying that this is not the case. However to quote from recent reviews he has a “superb, melodic vocal” and “a solid range…switching seamlessly from melodic ballads to fast upbeat singing.”

When it comes to musical influences a broad range of names from contemporary music would come to mind including artists such as Cat Stevens, James Taylor, The Eagles, U2, Coldplay, Carol King, Snow Patrol, Oasis, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Paul Young, Paul Weller and Bob Dylan.

Outside of the music world Rob loves to follow his favourite football team Arsenal who in recent years have remained trophyless. He would argue that this is solely down to bad luck and injuries – sane people would argue otherwise.

Rob hopes that one day there won’t be so much rain during the English summertime and that the sky will remain forever blue.

Rob is also the founder the The Local Talk network of news sites and personally edits The Local Talk – Epping
