Well Done guys i imagine you getting great pleasure from recording this i have done a bit of recording in the past as a drummer singer and loved every second of it Keep up the good work and allways remember you can NEVER please all of the people all of the time its a bonus to please some of the people some of the time but yourself all of the time .have fun with it.

Thanks for taking the time to leave your comment, we both really appreciate it.
You’re right on both counts, we had a great time recording this, and this is my personal favourite of the five tracks we have up on the site.
You’re also right that we won’t be able to please people all the time. But I’m interested in what people who don’t like the current version have to say. Why they don’t like it, what they do like.
We’ll keep having fun, without that I know I couldn’t keep going!
Hope your drumming/singing continues to do the same for you.
I’m starting to really like your music. :D
For this song though you shouldn’t let the music over power your voice. In the beginning I can barely hear you ! D=
I am really liking the strings. It brings more to the song. =)
Great intro and ending. Loved it !!
I think adding the cymbals sounds awesome. However, after 2:30, you could make the drums more complex by adding some repeated descending tomtom runs, and change the snare hit to the 4th beat as opposed to the 3rd (maybe the suggestion of a double kick pedal would be too extreme for this particular song :D ) Would give the song more energy/drive I reckon.
The funny thing about the drum beat at the end of this is, we did this song last (or second to last), and we couldn’t get it sounding right at first. First of all, we started with drums coming in after the first chorus, then we limitted it to when we come out of the bridge. Then we thought about the ride doing 8s rather than 4s. Your idea would definitely give it that drive. but then, I don’t think the drums are particularly loud enough on this version to hear the bass drum, so maybe that would give it more. Also, in my head, the feel we were going for was more ‘celebratory/a culmination’ (the closest word I could think of), so I think the drums work fairly well for that.
I like the way the (newly added) drums build toward the end. This song really keeps getting better. It wasn’t dramatically changed, but it’s still great.
Hey April, I don’t know if you can hear the bass drum on this version when it comes in, but we wanted it to almost sound like a heart beat – breathing life into the track. This is Jim our producer’s favourite song.
I love the added classical touch…! but do you think you could add any more classical sounds without it sounding too overbearing? I really like the instrumental section in the middle but could you make it a bit more dramatic in one part of it maybe? I am not musically skilled at all so don’t take my word for anything… I’m just going on what I like to hear in songs and a lot of the time the instrumental section tends to be my favourite.
You raise an interesting point. Do we sing “in American accents”, or do we try to sing “how we speak”. People like Kate Nash or Lily Allen have definitely made a conscious decision to sound English when they sing, but I’d say that would less natural for me. All the music I grew up singing was sung with an American accent.
I agree with Kal. It’s an interesting point and to be honest the way I sing feels natural to me. I’m not making a conscious decision to sing in any particular way. Further to this most of the songs we’ve done so far you’d probably categorize as being ones that capture an emotion or feeling in a particular moment as opposed to presenting a more general comment on society. Bands like the Arctic Monkeys, Lilly Allen, Kate Nash promote their accents in their music because it adds a depth to what is often a social commentary in their songs. In the case of the Arctic Monkeys, many of the songs are about life in Sheffield and the accent he sings in helps to convey this.
I shall write a blog about this at some point because it’s definitely worth exploring.
Hi guys! I totally agree with Matt that a cello would add more depth to the song – it is that whole light and shade thing, the song is good but seems to stay on a similar level. Cello in the middle section (and maybe again at the end) would add more complexity, as would beginning the song with only one voice rather than layering it? I would prefer to hear the vocal line a little more prominent also, but that is just my opinion.
Hi Matt, thanks for the comment. I actually thought about having Cello on I Wanna Know, but this interests me. Tell me where would you add Cello and we’ll give it a go over this weekend!
Kal
Round about the 2min18 mark, where you have that break before . Might sound good starting from that point and leading in to the last chorus all the way through to the end.
That means so much Katharina – thanks! Do you think we need to add or change anything? We were thinking with experimenting with some quiet violin in the background…what do you think?
hmm… i think you should try it with the violin but i think it sounds better without. but i don’t know! try it!
maybe you should try that at the beginning is just one singer. i think it’s kal who sings in the backgroud, right? maybe he should start a bit later maybe there: but you don’t let it…
Hey Katharina,
Kal here.
We’ll play around with the harmonies and let you know how we get on :)
Thanks for all of your comments and praise – it’s really nice!
hey rob!! ok, i try;o)
my feeling says i like the first version the most!!!
the backround singing gives the song power and melancholie…….
i got goose pimples*
hope it would help you a little bit.
much greets
anne
Hey Anne!
Nice to hear from you! Yeah the backing vocals that Kal does are really important to this song and something we need to make sure come through on the final version. Would you change or add anything at all?
One of the great things about this project is that we can go in different directions with songs but also go in multiple directions with them. If enough people like the stripped down versions at the end then we will most certainly make mixes that are simple to contrast with the busier ones! Keep posting!
Hi Don,
My answer would be, semi-deliberate. I came up with the part in rehearsals, but until we heard it through the mixing desk in the studio, we weren’t sure what it was going to sound like. I think Vedere came out the best from this session, mainly because of the way the piano and the guitar work together.
Any further questions, I’ll be happy to answer them. :)
I’m liking the slower tempo, suits the feeling of the song more, feels less rushed. Nice guitar parts as well, I love the way it really starts to build up with the guitar riff at 2:40.

really good. maybe just add a some drums gently in the back round for the whole song.

Thanks Becca. I think we are pretty much done with this song now. Just need to get it mastered!

I agree with Douvre completely
Noted!

This one is great. The intro is really dramatic. Everything fits together very well.
Hey April,
Thanks for the feedback. I love the intro. I liked it before Dave came in and recorded his violin parts and I like it even more now! :)
Hey! I just love this song! the new version is great :) and I love the way you both sing
Hey Kelly,
Thanks for the comment. I think this is one of my favourite songs that we do :)
I would suggest that you stop singing in American accents. It sounds unnatural.

What do you think of the latest version with violin guys?! I think there’s a case for exploring Matt’s idea of Cello as well…

I love the Violin. It sounds so beautiful – almost Italian! Good work xx
Try some cello. Might give some extra depth.

i really LOVE this song! it’s just beautiful.
i like the 3rd version best!
really cool!

i liked the 2nd version. I dont know anything about music i just listen.(and sing in my shower)
Thanks Dena! Sometimes I wish i knew nothing about music. It’s more magical when you don’t know how the trick works!
Perhaps you could have an album with just this sound. Simple, and with the beautiful Piano and Guitar playing together?
One of the great things about this project is that we can go in different directions with songs but also go in multiple directions with them. Xmas number 1! Think about it…
Top tune, thought of adding shakers or something?
We have but not sure exactly where we want to go with percussion just yet. I don’t suppose you play yourself? Got any ideas?
Got to agree with Don on this one, the guitar and piano make this sound so polished mate. Quality.
I love the way the guitar is beautiful but really quiet – was that deliberate?
