Studio Day 1

October 29th, 2009 | By Kal

7:00am I woke up: in fairness I had been pretending to be a sleep for a while, but I had to get up.  I remember being excited about getting in the studio and recording what we had, but more so, I was nervous, even after the past two days of rehearsals, that either what we had wasn’t good enough, or that I wouldn’t be able to produce when the time came!

8:46am The first of two buses and then a 30 minute walk.  It was good to clear my head and think about what we were going to do that day, and in the complete opposite of musician style, I arrived at the studio 10 minutes early to find Jim, our producer hoovering.  I was there.

10:05am Can I just point out that Rob was late.  Monday was a bit of a role reversal.

10:45am By the time we’d had a chat, and set up the piano, it was 45 minutes in.  I remember thinking that time was flying and we weren’t getting the most out of it.  You can’t really blame me, as we’d done nothing.  Jim asked us to turn our phones off when we were recording, which I didn’t mind, except I am a massive clock watcher – I don’t like losing track of time.

1:20pm Managed to get close enough to the the dual monitors of the studio computer.  We’d done a lot.  Put down a few ideas and recorded some vocals to them.  The least glamorous cheese sandwich and it was back to work.

5:45pm Knackered (tired for those of you that don’t know), after just one day.  I claim it’s because the clocks went back, but concentrating on what you hear / the sounds you make non-stop for nearly 8 hours is actually quite tiring.  We decide to call it a day as we finish up some vocals.

6:05pm Having recorded a short video in Rob’s car, I arrive home.  Fairly pleased to be “ahead of schedule”, he have the majority of our material recorded.  At this stage, I remember hoping that that was a good thing, rather than us just not having enough.

Early O’clock I really don’t remember the exact time I went to sleep that night, but it was early.  I wanted it to be tomorrow already, to get back into the studio.  I’ll tell you this now, I had kind of forgotten that we were going to take home the material we had recorded at the end of day 2.
