Coming up with new parts

Coming up with new parts for song ideas is easy.
That sounds ridiculously cocky, and of course it is because it only tells half of the story. What I mean by the statement is that for me, if I’m struggling to come up for a part for a song it is because I’m not really feeling the song. No amount of hard work is going to get me a part that I am happy with.
The key is understanding the song and having an idea of the sound you want to finish up with. Then you just play along and something comes out by accident. A good example of that is Vedere. Rob and I were jamming and I hadn’t come up with a guitar part for it. Then as Rob played the introduction on the piano, I played a few notes almost to lead in to what I’d been toiling away with all day and when we heard them, we both knew, that was the part we wanted.
Have a listen and tell me what you think.
